A themed salon of “The Integration of Law and the Peace Issue of East Asia” was held in International Lecture Hall (Room 601) of Renmin Law School on August 21. Students from “The Future Leader- the First China International Legal Elite Camp” .Volunteers took an active part in this salon, so does vice dean of Asia-Pacific Law School, Professor Zhou Yiqing and Professor Zheng Xiaomin. Participants were divided into three groups, each with 3 or 4 representatives, who were expected to show their final work. After the representatives showed their work, the jury committee consisting of 4 Ph.D. students of Seoul National University, Kokushikan University and of Renmin University of China evaluated and awarded the top groups. The first group chose the topic of “The relationship between the integration of law, the peace and development—from the perspective of Territorial disputes”. Their main idea was that the peace was a challenge as well as chance to the integration of law, and that territorial disputes would surely hinder the development of local economy, either in a short term or a long term. But integration of law, on the contrary, could promote both peace and development. They further put forward constructive suggestions regarding solving the current territorial disputes in Asia. The second group focused on the topic of “The Regional Integration of Food Safety Law”. Compared with Japanese, they concluded that Chinese legislation and enforcement of FS law had some defects including conflict legislations and laggard Quarantine standard, which caused trade friction between the two countries. Based on the analysis of these problems, they further pointed out solutions. The topic of the third group is “Promoting Local Economy via the Unification of Dispute Resolution Mechanisms”. China and Japan, as they noted, did not pay enough attention to this, which is crucial to the regional development. They recommended the model of dispute solving mechanism of EU, which is the most successful regional community in the world. Although East Asia and EU are dissimilar in history, cultural and geopolitics, they shared hope for regional peace and development. Some creative measures were raised including establishing a supranational institution. The APLEC give ambitious and concerned students a chance to get together and exchange ideas. By full discussion and communication, these vigorous young students had gotten to understand the theme deeper. After careful decision, judges gave their final result: the first group won the best teamwork price, the second group the best innovation award and the third group the best representation award according to their excellent performance. Students said the experience is more forgettable than the award they won. The salon allowed free and open atmosphere and enable them to relax and fully develop their thoughts.
