On the 19th, Aug, The Future Leader: The First China International Legal Elite Camp jointly hosted by Law School, Renmin University of China and Asia-pacific Institute of Law held the opening ceremony. Camp students from 17 Universities in Asian-Pacific Region and volunteers from 5 universities at home attended the opening ceremony in 601, Minde Law Building, RUC at 9 AM. School Leaders have been invited to the opening ceremony today, and they are Han Dayuan, Dean of Law School, RUC, Yang Dong, Vice Dean of Asia-Pacific Institute of Law,Zhou Yiqing, Vice Dean of Asia-Pacific Institute of Law and Zheng Xiaoming, Vice Dean of Asia-Pacific Institute of Law.
After the opening words, Dean Han addressed his greetings about the camp. In his greetings, Dean Han mentioned the main purpose of the camp is to provide a good opportunity for excellent legal minds to make friends and exchange ideas, to enhance the understanding of the legal system in different Asian-Pacific countries, and especially to gain knowledge of the latest Chinese legal developments. Dean Han encouraged law students to think deeply about the meaning of law studying, to concern on the humanity, to keep in mind our great aim of realizing the dignity and value of human beings and contribute to the legal development and peace and stability in Asia-Pacific regions. Finally, he expressed his warm welcome again.

Then, camp students and volunteer representatives addressed their speeches. Diana Hu, from University of Sydney, extended her great appreciation for the very chance provided by the law school, RUC and Asia-Pacific Institute of Law, RUC. She believes that the development of Asia-Pacific area is the focus of the world. The camp helps her to understand China and its legal developments and this camp is a wonderful platform for culture exchange in Asian-Pacific countries as well. Shi Guangyuan, from Zhejiang University, shared his understanding and idea about what law is. He feels that law is a common understanding which is beyond regional and culture differences, and the true purpose of the camp is to realize this common understanding through communication and discussion. Meanwhile, he expressed his expectation for the coming one-week camp life. Meng Yanlun from Shanghai International Studies University and Yang Suhong from Renmin University addressed their speeches as volunteer representatives afterwards. They are sure they will do a very good job as volunteers and add more vividness to this camp.





After the opening ceremony, the camp members were led to the campus of Renmin University. They had good memories around Mingde Building, the graffiti wall, the sports stadium, the library and Qiushi Rock. Then, the campers and the volunteers were divided into three groups to carry out team construction at Baijia Corridor and decide the team name, captain and slogan. In the following days, they are going to participate in the activities in the form of teams.


Professor Zhu Jingwen presented the first lecture of the summer camp, Overview Chinese Law: History, Framework and Institution at 2:30 pm at Room 601 of Mingde Law Building. Campers from foreign countries, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan had a further acknowledgment of Mainland legal culture. Professor Zhu’s fluent English and brilliant lecture won the camper’s applause. After the lecture, Professor had a further communication with the campers about the relevant issues.

After the lecture, the campers and the volunteers went to the famous Laoshe Teahouse to experience the traditional Peking Culture. They also tasted fry sauce noodles nearby and watched Peking Opera Jinshatan, oral stunts performance and tea art performance.

The first day’s activity came to an end after the campers finished a busy schedule. Everybody went back to the hotel and had a larger expectation of the camp.
